Pickled herring is very popular in Scandinavian and Eastern countries. Usually it is served with onion and oil, and is also added to the salads or sandwiches. You will be surprised with a sweet and savory taste of the herring. Save the pickled fish in a glass food container in the fridge.

Method

  • Defrost the herring, cut the head, tail and fins. The remove the entrails from abdomen. Wash fish inside and take out large bones. Cut the fish into small pieces.

  • Make marinade. Fill a saucepan with water, bring to a boil. Then add all of the listed spices and oil. Cook for 15 seconds, add vinegar and remove from the stove. Leave to cool down.

  • Put the herring pieces in a food container, pour over the chilled marinade. Then close the box and soak for 48 hours.
