Defrost the herring. Then cut into small pieces.
Make marinade. Mix the following ingredients in a bowl: soy sauce, vinegar, lemon juice, salt and sugar.
Peel the onion and cut it into rings.
Take a large bowl, put the pieces of herring. Then pour over the marinade and sprinkle with chopped onion. Leave to soak for 12 hours.
