Method

  • Making freshly squeezed orange juice is a better choice than buying it bottled, so why not try making it at home? Take three oranges, peel them with a knife, and cut them into quarters. Put the pieces in the blender and blend until the texture is even. Finally, strain the juice through a strainer to separate the solids from the liquid.

  • All you need is a grater with small holes. Simply take the orange and grate it the same way you would grate cheese. Make sure to rotate the orange as you do so and avoid getting too much of the white part of the peel, which has a more bitter taste and less flavor.

  • Pour 15.2 fluid ounces of orange juice into a large bowl. Add the gelatin powder to the juice and let it sit for 10 minutes to thicken.

  • In a mixer equipped with a whisk, mix the whipping cream and sugar until it reaches stiff peaks. Place the bowl with the gelatin in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds till it becomes liquid. Stir thoroughly and add the leftover orange juice, vanilla extract, and orange zest to the whipped cream mixture. Continue whisking until all ingredients are evenly blended.

  • Divide the mixture into separate dishes. Cover each with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator until it thickens, approximately three hours. Finally, top off each serving with a slice of orange for garnish.

Tips

  • Another ingredient that can be added to the recipe is grapefruit juice. Grapefruit and orange go super well together because they are both citrus fruits, and after combining them in a dessert, the flavor becomes more unique.

Bon Appetit!
