The first and most important step is to wash and clean the mussels with the help of a brush or clean sponge. Check if the mussels do not have cracks; if yes, it is better not to cook them because they might not be fresh. When done, place them aside.
Peel the onion and garlic cloves skin. The onion should next be cut into thin pieces with a knife. Then, chop the garlic cloves.
Heat up a large skillet, add the butter, and melt it. Afterward, transfer the cut onion and minced garlic and mix everything for a while. Sauté the vegetables until the onion reaches a golden color.
When everything is sauteed, add the milk and heavy cream. Season everything with salt and black pepper and bring everything to a boil. Afterward, transfer the mussels and mix everything together until the ingredients are well combined. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for around 7–10 minutes until well done. Sprinkle fresh parsley on the already-cooked mussels.
When everything is done, serve the dish and enjoy it together with a glass of wine or any other drink.
What heavy cream is better to use when preparing the mussels? It is better to use full-fat heavy cream; the higher the fat content, the creamier the dish will be.
Do you not know with what to serve the mussels? They go extremely well with pasta, rice, or even a simple summer salad.
Bon Appetit!
