  • The first and most important step is to wash and clean the mussels with the help of a brush or clean sponge. Check if the mussels do not have cracks; if yes, it is better not to cook them because they might not be fresh. When done, place them aside.

  • Peel the onion and garlic cloves skin. The onion should next be cut into thin pieces with a knife. Then, chop the garlic cloves.

  • Heat up a large skillet, add the butter, and melt it. Afterward, transfer the cut onion and minced garlic and mix everything for a while. Sauté the vegetables until the onion reaches a golden color.

  • When everything is sauteed, add the milk and heavy cream. Season everything with salt and black pepper and bring everything to a boil. Afterward, transfer the mussels and mix everything together until the ingredients are well combined. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for around 7–10 minutes until well done. Sprinkle fresh parsley on the already-cooked mussels.

  • When everything is done, serve the dish and enjoy it together with a glass of wine or any other drink.


  • What heavy cream is better to use when preparing the mussels? It is better to use full-fat heavy cream; the higher the fat content, the creamier the dish will be.
