Sweet Indian rice pudding

Sweet Indian rice pudding is called Kheer. It is made of rice, red lentils, milk, coconut cream and muscovado (cane) sugar. This dish is different from regular rice porridge, but it is very tasty. Garnish with fresh or dried fruits.


  • Basmati rice
    1,5 tsp.
  • Red lentils
    1 tbsp.
  • Milk
    1,5 cups
  • Coconut cream
    1,5 tsp.
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Vegetable ghee
    1,5 tsp.
  • Muscovado sugar
    1,5 tbsp.
  • Cashew
    to taste
  • Raisins
    to taste

  • Soak the rice in water for 20 minutes, rinse several times.

  • Rinse red lentils several times. Heat the frying pan, add ghee and re lentils. Simmer for golden.

  • Then pour water (1 cup) and add cinnamon sticks. Cook for about 25 minutes.

  • Add rice and milk. Cook for about 10 minutes.

  • Next, add sugar and cook again for 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

  • Remove for the stove, add coconut cream and mix well.

  • Heat another frying pan, brown nuts (choose any nuts to your taste) until golden brown. Sprinkle the browned nuts over the rice pudding.
