The word “coleslaw’ came from Dutch language. It is translated as a cabbage salad. The recipe was brought to the USA by immigrants from Netherlands. Initially the dish was made without mayo. We recommend a new version of the famous salad made of cabbage, carrot and mayonnaise dressing.

  • Lemon juice

  • Mayonnaise

  • Mustard
    to taste
  • Ground black pepper
    to taste
  • Sugar
    1 tsp.
  • Salt

Method

  • Cut cabbage into thin strips.

  • Peel the carrot, wash under running water and grate it.

  • Make the dressing. Combine the following ingredients in a separate bowl: mayonnaise, lemon juice, mustard and sugar.

  • Put all the chopped ingredients in a salad bowl. Pour the sauce over the salad. Season to your taste, mix well.

Tips

  • How to get lemon juice. Take out the lemon from the fridge, leave it heat up for a few minutes. Then roll the fruit on your cooking board with your hands. This action helps to get more juice. Then slice the lemon crosswise using a sharp knife. Squeeze the lemon with the cutting side up, so the seeds don’t fall into the bowl.
