Fill a pot with water, bring to a boil. Peel carrots, rinse and grate. Add to the boiling water, cook for about 10 minutes. Add also bay leaf.
Rinse red lentils for about 3-4 times, add to the pot and cook for 20 minutes over medium heat.
Peel garlic and onions, rinse and finely cut.
Rinse celery, cut into rings.
Heat the frying pan, pour in vegetable oil. Add onions, garlic, celery and spices. Brown for 5 minutes, stir well. When the lentil is done, add this mixture and cook again for 20 minutes.
