Cut leek and onions into rings. Melt butter in a saucepan, add the chopped ingredients and saute them until golden brown.
Peel potatoes and cut into the cubes. Then pour water into the pan and add the potatoes. Cook until done (15-20 minutes).
Puree all the ingredients in a blender. Add the cream and mix. Serve the onion soup with croutons. Season with salt, pepper and any spices to your taste.
